Custom Icon for Slider/Carousel Navigation Arrows

live
January 16, 2026

Dear all,

I would like to propose an option to change the default icons for \”Navigation Arrows\” across all relevant blocks: Slider and Carousel, Row/Column (Smart Scroll), and Box Container (Smart Scroll).

Current Limitation: Currently, Greenshift provides extensive styling options for navigation (position, color, border, shadow, etc.), but we are restricted to the default arrow icons.

The Problem: While we can build custom controls using separate blocks, it is often overkill and time-consuming for a simple task. Many users (including myself) end up building entire custom navigation sets just because we want to change the arrow style to match the website’s branding. This adds unnecessary steps to the workflow.

Proposed Solution: Add an \”Icon Picker\” (supporting SVG or Icon Libraries) within the \”Navigation Arrows\” settings panel. This would allow us to swap the default arrows directly within the block settings without needing to build external custom controls.

Why this is important: It would significantly improve workflow efficiency and provide better design flexibility while keeping the site\’s codebase clean and simple.

This is available from first version of slider. You can find information in documentation

We can’t add this because slider doesn’t use icons for performance reason. It uses simple text symbol of arrow. And I don’t think that making custom arrows is too long task. It’s just applying class to block, it’s 5 second task, but this is much flexible because block can be posted outside slider.

Thanks for your feedback. I completely value the performance-first approach of Greenshift.

However, I’d like to point out a small inconsistency: the slider settings already include extensive styling options for these arrows (position, background, border, spacing, etc.). If a user wants to change just the arrow shape to match their brand, it feels counter-intuitive to abandon all those built-in controls and build 2-3 separate blocks from scratch just for a visual symbol.

If performance is the main concern, perhaps instead of a heavy icon library, you could provide a simple SVG input field? This way:

Performance stays high: No extra fonts or libraries are loaded, just a tiny bit of inline SVG code.

Workflow is optimized: We keep using the excellent built-in navigation settings without the ‘overkill’ of manual block syncing.

Greenshift is all about speed and efficiency; having this small bridge between ‘default’ and ‘fully custom’ would save users a lot of repetitive work
